ELK
“Magnificent” is the word to describe a mature and
heavy antlered bull. The crowning jewel of the big game deer family
is a trophy hunter's dream. Quality game management along with
sportsmen-funded projects are responsible for elk populations being
on the increase. A bugling elk in close proximity can unnerve even
the most seasoned hunter. A sub-dominant challenging bugle often
is the trigger to draw that animal within range. Other times, the
mew of an estrus cow excites the bull to close the distance. Cass
Creek has recorded these important calls, capturing a total of
five in one single hand-held device.
CALF - A high pitched call made by
young when separated from their mother.
LONESOME COW - A lost and upset cow,
drawing both bulls and cows.
ESTRUS COW - An excited mating whine
calling all willing bulls.
BUGLE - A rutting bull's announcement
of his territory, dominance and mating call to lure a receptive
cow.
DOMINANT BUGLE - An aggressive and
excited call made by a dominant bull.
